Impact of Global Change on Land Use Management in Latin American Tropical Ecosystems

Preliminary call for participants Summerschool 2006 in Göttingen
The summer school 2006 on Integrated Resource managment in the Tropics is the second in a row of three. The first in September 2005 was performed under the concept of face to face imparting of knowledge about basics and applied aspects from tropical forestry, agriculture and natural conservation. For 2006 we plan a closer integration of contributions from participants under the frame title: Impact of Global Change on Land Use Management in Latin American Tropical Ecosystems.
This includes:
- Scenarios of Global Change
- Managing humid and arid ecosystems under changing soil and climate conditions
- Concepts of natural conservation
- Impact of a changing environment on living conditions and livelihood of farmers
- Developing land use decision tools and models
Beneath the lectures and presentations there is enough time for discussions on the objectives and the planning of future common activities.
Frame program
As in the last years we are planning a frame program with visits excursions to places and institutions related to the objective of the school. in the vicinty of G?ttingen. We already contacted the KWS one of the world's leading companies in plant breeding.
Target groups
The regional focus again is Latin America. Experts and advanced students working on the science and management of tropical land resources and on landuse change in semiarid or humid environments are invited to participate. Institutional affiliations will include research and education, NGO's, business, government agencies, and civil society organisations. Among the applicants we will choose those who can contribute to the above mentioned objectives with a short presentation not longer than 45 min.

Climate & Health Colloquium
The Institute for the Study of Society & Environment (ISSE) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is pleased to announce its Summer 2006 - Climate & Health Colloquium, July 16- July 22, 2006. This colloquium exposes graduate and post-graduate students to methods for integrating climate change, climate variability and public health research. It will include presentations, opportunities for students to discuss integrated work with leaders in their respective fields, and gain hands-on experience with analytic tools.
