The evolution of the in situ global ocean observing system for climate

A paper in the Marine Technology Society Journal, authored by Stephen R. Piotrowicz and David Legler of CPO’s Climate Observation Division (COD), summarizes key ocean observation systems: the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) and the Arctic Observing Network.

How will increased greenhouse gases affect the length of the tropical cyclone season?

Research funded by CPO’s Modeling, Analysis, Predictions, and Projections (MAPP) program, titled “Projected 21st century changes in the length of the tropical cyclone season” by John G. Dwyer (Columbia University) et al., was recently accepted for publication and posted as an Early Online Release in the Journal of Climate.

The Chemistry of Atmospheric Brown Carbon

A team of scientists partially funded by CPO's Atmospheric Chemistry, Carbon Cycle, & Climate (AC4) program published a Chemical Reviews article on the chemistry of atmospheric "brown carbon,"-- the atmospheric aerosol contributing to the brown color of smoggy air.

NOAA contributes key carbon dioxide data to global carbon assessment

The release of Global Carbon Budget 2014 coincided with the UN Climate Summit in New York on Sept. 23, 2014. The global report measures carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and land environment draws heavily from data and observations by NOAA research scientists and their partners.
