In this webinar, the National Weather Service and the RISA Program present stories about researchers, forecasters, and fire managers working together to improve public and wildland firefighter safety. 

A new study assesses the evolution of weather and climate conditions and impacts during the 1950s to establish their national and regional decision-making contexts, scientific and technological improvements prior to and during the event that helped mitigate risks, and on and off-farm responses in terms of the socioeconomic impacts.

Since the end of the 19th century, Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) predictions have improved. However, prediction skill of the operational forecasts from 1989-2012 is quite low.

The NOAA CPO Modeling, Analysis, Prediction, and Projections (MAPP) program hosted a webinar on the topic of Weather-Climate Linkages: Analysis, Modeling, and Prediction Efforts on Thursday, February 12, 2015. The announcement is provided below; you are invited to remotely join the session.

A paper funded by the Climate Program Office’s MAPP and ESS programs was published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS) in December.  The paper - titled "Madden-Julian Oscillation - Bridging  Weather and Climate" - shows that the MJO, which sits in a time frame between weather (less than 10 days) and climate (90 days and longer), can affect both weather and climate and plays a critical role in connecting or bridging the two.
