The Climate Program Office’s Stephen R. Piotrowicz will receive one of the 2016 NOAA Administrator’s Awards for his outstanding management of the US Argo Ocean Observing program.

A letter in Nature Climate Change details work funded in part by the CPO overviewing a strong agreement in measurements of Earth’s energy imbalance by Argo floats and the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System.

New research supported by CPO's Climate Observation Division looks into whether or not its possible to provide NOAA Global Drifter Program data at hourly resolution. This research, "A global surface drifter data set at hourly resolution," was published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans on April 4, 2016. 

Three papers funded by CPO's Climate Observation Division (a Review Article, Perspective, and Correspondence) appeared in the February Issue of Nature Climate Change addressing monitoring and understanding the Earth's Energy Imbalance.

This week two Deep SOLO prototypes were recovered after being in the Pacific for a little more than a year.  These prototypes are able to go down to 6000m and send valuable data via satellites to scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO).
